The site and program of this small house were in direct conflict. A corner lot at the turn of the access road this relatively small site had a very unusual but interesting shape.  A growing young family residence the program called for three bed rooms two baths a large family room in addition to kitchen, dining, living room, plus a two care garage and an independent studio apartment.  From the beginning our main challenge was to fit the program on a site barely larger than 500 m2.

We allowed the general form of the plan to be generated by the legal requirements and municipal codes. The second step however was to reshape this general mass by the most important forces. Orientation, solar exposure, view, natural light, air, exterior spaces, and car and pedestrian approach provided the next layer of clues in formation of this unique house.

Precast concrete panels proved to be economical and efficient way to build the first two floors while wood construction for the third addresses the client’s hands on approach. The material pallet is kept very simple in order to avoid too many visual and technical conflicts while the natural site provides the dynamic setting which has a complementary relation to the house itself.
